Non-Profit Public Health Institute
Situation
A large non-profit public health institute dedicated to maximizing positive health conditions in the state’s communities through collaboration, scientific inquiry and applied expertise needed to reach a broad audience with their information and online classes. However, they lacked an effective way to teach their expansive audience.
Analysis
Solo Learning collaborated with them to create an online learning management system (LMS) that allows the public to receive free online training and obtain information about other programs and services offered by the state.
More than three years ago, the health institute sent out a RFP for companies capable of creating a LMS for their specific learning content. They heard back from several companies but were most impressed with the responsiveness of the Solo Learning team during the selection process, and especially appreciated the proposed value. Since the majority of the companies who responded provided a similar service, it became a matter of price versus services, as compared to the resources behind the LMS. In the end, Solo Learning had the best resources to back up their proposal.
The system needed to be easy to navigate since the general public would use it to take courses.
Results
The LMS implementation was handled very efficiently. Now, with simple instruction, the health institute’s staff is able to add people, change profiles and add courses. Featuring either training or information-based courses, today’s system boasts more than 16,000 registered users, with approximately 250 new users being added each month.
The health institute needed to enroll approximately 5,000 learners into the LMS as simply as possible. They wanted to avoid the new learners having to sign in to the site with an ID and password. Students needed to be preloaded into the system, including their username and secret code. Solo Learning easily remedied the problem, and now the students can enter the LMS with just the click of one button.
Currently, there are 18 classes available on the LMS. Examples of class topics range from the proper procedures to test newborns for diseases, to the benefits Medicaid provides for seniors.
